Early signs of termites in Hyderabad homes

Block of wood hollowed out by termites

Subterranean termites live in the soil under your building and travel up through cracks to reach wood. They work out of sight, so most families only notice them after a door frame or wardrobe is already hollow. A ten-minute check every few months catches them while treatment is still simple.

Pencil-thin mud tubes

Look along skirting, wall–floor joints, staircase edges and around pipe entries for thin brown tunnels. Termites build them to stay moist while moving between soil and wood. Scraping a tube off does not remove the colony — take a photo, leave it, and book an inspection.

Wood that sounds hollow

Tap door frames, skirting boards, cupboard bases and the back panels of modular kitchens with a screwdriver handle. Healthy wood gives a solid knock; eaten wood sounds papery or lets the tool sink in. In apartments, check the side of cupboards that shares a wall with plumbing shafts.

Wings near windows after rain

In April–June and after the first monsoon showers, winged termites leave mature colonies to start new ones. Piles of small, equal-sized wings on window sills or below lights mean a colony is close by, even if you never saw the swarm.

Smaller clues that add up

Paint that bubbles without a leak, doors that suddenly stick, fine powder or pellets below wooden fixtures, and a damp musty smell behind tiles are all worth a closer look — especially in ground-floor flats and independent houses with gardens.

What to do when you spot them

Avoid DIY sprays: they kill the few termites you see and push the rest deeper into the wall. A proper drill-fill-seal treatment puts a continuous chemical barrier in the masonry so the colony cannot return. Share your home size and a few photos on WhatsApp and we will tell you the price before the visit.
